Q - How is myofascial release different from traditional or deep tissue massage?
A - Myofascial release uses sustained pressure or stretch in areas of fascial restrictions. It is often much more gentle than traditional massage, but connects deep into the tissues and is effective in achieving longer lasting results. First sessions always include more evaluation to really see how the body is holding tension in the system, looking for postural imbalances, and other potential underlying causes elsewhere in the body. While most people are coming in for relief from pain or other problems, many people also report feeling quite relaxed at the end of a session as well.
Q - How often should I receive treatment, and how many sessions will I need before I start feeling better?
A - Healing is a journey, and myofascial release is not a ‘one and done’ treatment. Many clients notice improvements within the first few sessions, but deeper results require repetition to create lasting results. The goal will be to space treatments further apart, but in the beginning scheduling a few treatments closer together will be optimal in reaching your goals. We can discuss this further at your first treatment.
Q - What should I wear to my session?
A - Loose, comfortable clothing is best for ease of movement; for men, loose fitting athletic shorts; for women, shorts and a sports bra or tank top. Since myofascial release requires working on the skin directly, without the use of lotions or oil, please wait until after your session to moisturize your skin. For workshops, please dress for comfort!
Q - Can I combine Myofascial Release and Sound Therapy in one appointment?
A - Yes, please book the 1 hr myofascial release session, and talk to your therapist about incorporating both myofascial release and sound therapy when you arrive for your appointment. Your therapist may also suggest an integrated session occasionally, depending on what issues you are currently working through.
